Smoke detector uses for a typical residential dwelling are suppose to send alarm throughout the dwelling if fire or smoke are detected. I would say 95% of homes in America do not have the correct smoke detectors needed in place. This problem is mostly in homes both new and old.
Cooking food sometimes burns and the smoke detector goes into alarm mode screaming with very loud beeps. When this happens the detector is many times disconnected and never reconnected again by homeowner. Because of this many more fires happen.
Fire departments in many cities get involved due to it being a simple but potentially severe problem. The fire departments have put programs together to go into homes and just check for fire alarms. If one is needed they have it installed for homeowners.
In many cities, fire departments have had to put together programs to go out and check to make sure smoke detectors are in their intended ready position or a couple of basic battery powered smoke detectors are in place throughout the city. This move has helped with the amount of calls a city fire department gets through the year.
But still today many homeowners are living with no protection.
